3 Steps to take after a bike accident

When you ride a bike, your chances of injury or death are significantly greater than if you were in a car. Plus, the chances of you getting into an accident are significantly greater when you ride a bike, meaning that you can expect at least one crash during your cycling years.

If you are in a bicycle accident, follow these steps afterward.

1. Stay put

You must stay at the scene. Do not leave. That can make you guilty of hitting and running, even if you are on a bike and not the at-fault party.

2. Check for injuries

Check yourself for injuries. Even when you followed all bicycle safety precautions, you can still find yourself with cuts, whiplash, broken bones or a concussion. Of course, you might still have adrenaline coursing through your veins and not feel these injuries right away. That means you still need to see a doctor right away, even when you do not feel injured. Keep track of your medical expenses related to the accident so you can get compensation from your insurance company.

3. Call the police

When there are damages, injuries or someone died, call the police. They will arrive to investigate the case and will probably want to speak to you. Answer their questions, but make sure you do not admit that you are at fault.

If you experience a bike crash, you could have a personal injury case on your hands. That is especially true if the car that hit you was not following proper driving precautions. In this case, you need to take action so you can get compensation for your injuries.
