What are some signs of brain trauma?

Falling off a bicycle or hitting your head on the ground may not seem like a serious injury at first. You could go back home without seeking further medical help.

However, as time goes on, you may notice subtle signs of brain trauma that can interfere with your daily life.

Sensory trouble

According to the Mayo Clinic, some people may notice differences in how they taste, see or feel things around them. You may have an increase in blurred vision or even lose your vision in one or both of your eyes. A continual bad or sour taste as you eat or drink may leave you feeling frustrated.

You may not notice some of these signs directly after the injury, due to the rush of adrenaline from the incident. Some traumatic brain injuries start off mild and grow more severe in the days or weeks after.

Speech issues

One problem your loved ones may notice before you do is a change in your concentration and speech. You may forget what topic you are talking about mid-sentence or struggle to speak clearly and articulate your words.

This unusual behavior can leave you feeling restless or continually irritated, since you may feel lost and confused. You could struggle to remember certain details or important conversations you had only days before.

Coordination problems

In the time after a head injury, you may lose your balance or coordination more often. Not only can this lead to more injuries, but you could also notice some odd tingling sensations in your arms or legs as well. The sluggish or tired feeling that lingers after a head injury could be another sign of brain trauma.
