Woman from California involved in deadly bicycle accident

A woman from California was behind the wheel in a deadly bicycle accident that happened in New Jersey.

The man who was killed in the crash had formerly served as the president for the Long Hill Board of Education. He was 54 years old. Reports indicate that the accident happened at 3:06 p.m.

That time is important because the police chief said that he thinks sun glare may have played a role in the crash. The man was riding north when he got to an intersection, which is where he was hit by the woman’s car. After striking her vehicle, he then hit another car with a man from Scotch Plains in the driver’s seat.

The police arrived first and attempted to give the man CPR on the scene. Then paramedics from Atlantic Health showed up, along with the New Vernon Volunteer First Aid Squad. They took the man to Morristown Medical Center. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Other departments that assisted with the accident include the New Vernon Volunteer Fire Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation into the crash has not yet been completed.

This story helps to illustrate some risks that cyclists face on a daily basis. With their exposure, even a minor accident can lead to serious or fatal injuries. Things like sun glare and weather conditions can factor in and increase the risk. It is very important for those who get hurt in these accidents, or the family members of those who are killed, to know all of the legal options they have.
